10 Comic Book Characters Who Deserve Their Own TV Shows

1. Daredevil

This brings me to my number one choice! There are countless heroes and comic books that could be adapted for television, and no character fits the bill like Daredevil, Marvel's man without fear. Created in 1964, Matt Murdock resides in New York's Hell's Kitchen and is blinded as a child by a radioactive substance that falls from an oncoming vehicle. His remaining senses become heightened with levels of superhuman accuracy and sensitivity. When Murdock's supportive father is murdered by gangsters after refusing to throw a boxing match, he seeks revenge as Daredevil, donning a red costume and fighting against crime and corruption. He starred in a film of his own in 2003 which starred Ben Affleck and featured many important aspects of his history, including his romance with Elektra, and the villains Bullseye and Kingpin. The film received mixed to negative reviews but had a decent box office run which allowed a spin-off film to get made, focusing on Jennifer Garner's Elektra (which I'm sure you'll remember was a complete disaster). Daredevil is one of those characters better served in a weekly series than in a film, due in part to his day job as a lawyer. Law procedural shows are insanely popular, and would lead to the perfect storm if imbued with the aspects of a superhero tale. Daredevil has become one of the most influential and popular characters in Marvel's lineup. 20th Century Fox lost the rights to the character earlier this year when they failed to get a film reboot of the ground, which could actually be a good thing for fans. With Marvel entering the television arena later this fall, could a Daredevil show be right around the corner? The show could feature both aspects of the character in a great way, showing him fighting crime both in and out of a courtroom. When he fails in court, he can intimidate criminals as Daredevil. The writers of the show could find a fun, interesting way to balance those two aspects while at the same time delving into Murdock's unique powers and relationships. And there we have it! 10 comic book characters who deserve a chance on the small screen. Television offers these characters a unique opportunity at expanding their respective universes and exploring the characters in a deeper, more intricate way than if they were to get films of their own. And with the ever-growing popularity of comic book properties, we may be seeing more of them in the near future. Are there any heroes I missed that you would like to see on the small screen? Or other comics and graphic novels that would fare well on television? Sound off in the comments!
