10 Most Controversial American Dad Episodes (So Far)

8. Love, AD Style €“ S8E01

This episode is just...disgusting. And no I'm not talking about the shameless self-promotion from the voice of Hayley (and Seth's sister, Rachel) who released a jazz album around the time this episode aired. But there are way too many stomach-wrenching images in this episode that are completely unnecessary. The episode is funny enough without them and so these moments of rank and graphic violence feels excessive. There's the moment Roger graphically squashes two waltzing rats on his bar or the moment a lion mauls a woman in the street. Or even when Stan shows his SUV's brakes off to potential buyers only to see them go smashing into the windscreen. But grosser than all this is the final scene of the episode which requires explaining. Roger opens a lounge bar and hires Hayley to sing for him. He ends up falling in love with her and after she rejects him, he can't handle it so decides to shoot her. In hospital, he brings her a gift to make it up to her and reveals Christina Aguilera's larynx which he goes on to sing through (what happened to Christina Aguilera for him to cut out her larynx is left up to our imagination). He decides this isn't enough and so kidnaps Hayley and ties her up. Unhappy that they can't get close enough, he ultimately plans to cut off her skin and wear it so they can be united. Just in time, Jeff bursts in to save Hayley and she manages to explain that no matter what Roger does, she only wants Jeff. Cut to...Roger wearing Jeff's skin, with 'everything held together with a clip' under his hat. In seconds he decides that he's over Hayley and yells to a skinless Jeff (who has been left in a bathtub) that he can have his skin back. Just gross.
