10 Controversies That Rocked Game Of Thrones
3. Filming A Nude Scene In Front Of A Church
For a pivotal scene with Cersei in Season 5, which involves her taking a nude walk of shame, Game of Thrones producers had a specific location in mind: the Church of St Nicholas in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik.
However, the church takes a hardline stance on public nudity, sexuality, and so-called immorality, and the city rejected the show's application to shoot there based on pressure from the church.
Eventually, permission was granted to shoot in the city on the condition that a fake church set was created for any shots needed inside a building.
There's no word on whether the fake church was required to differ significantly in appearance from the real one. It would be rather amusing if they wound up looking identical in the end - unless, of course, you're in charge of the Church of St Nicholas.
