5. Ethel's Death

Elsa and Ethel are both fiercely independent women and their loyalty to one another doesn't seem to falter until Elsa puts herself before the rest of the Freaks. Despite being second in command and a friend of Elsa, that doesn't guarantee that Ethel is safe and it was shocking to see Elsa kill off the bearded lady in such a brutal manner. However, what's more bizarre is the way that Elsa and Stanley try to cover the murder up. Desperate for the Freaks to remain loyal to Elsa, she tries to pass off Ethel's murder as a suicide with the help of Stanley. And it doesn't exactly go to plan, much to the horror and the sadistic delight of the viewers. They plan to have Ethel commit suicide by crashing the car that she was driving but she unfortunately gets decapitated in the process. Some people called it, others didn't see it coming, but either way, fans of the show aren't as freaked out by blood and gore as they were in season one. Plus, we haven't had a decapitation until this point, so if anything, it was rather refreshing...
