10 Disturbing Backstories Behind Doctor Who Characters

6. Uncle & Auntie

Uncle and Auntie's characters were introduced in "The Doctor's Wife," and their backstory is horrific. The pair were transported to House when a temporal rift sucked them from time and space to deposit them in House's pocket reality.

Though they started out as humanoid people, they were changed over time by House. Whenever a Time Lord or other creature would find themselves transported to House's dimension, they would be "used" to ensure Uncle & Auntie could remain alive in some form. This meant that they were comprised of parts taken from the dead.

Both Uncle and Auntie were 100% reliant on House for survival. House kept the pair alive for an unknown period of time, though it's likely to have been millennia. When House used the Doctor's TARDIS to escape from its pocket dimension, that meant the end of Auntie and Uncle, since they couldn't survive without House.

When House departed, Uncle admitted he was "against it," referring to death. Auntie proceeded to drop dead on the spot. Uncle declared, "Actually, I feel fine," and died shortly thereafter. While it's not known what their lives were like before arriving on House, millennia spent as the zombified remains of Time Lords is incredibly disturbing.
