10 Disturbing Facts About Mindhunter's Serial Killers
4. William 'Junior' Pierce Was Already Locked Up
Sometimes, when you read about certain criminal acts, you ask yourself the question of 'could anything have been done to stop it?'. In the case of William Pierce, the answer is a resounding, yes!
Pierce was already cited as a danger to himself and others after being locked up for a series of crimes in the 1960s. Despite not being on the level of mass murder, Pierce has been convicted of a number of burglaries and thefts before being released from prison on parole in 1970.
Less than a year later, however, Pierce had taken the next step, murdering nine people in a period of less than a year before being re-arrested in 1971.
Pierce is expertly portrayed in Mindhunter by Michael Filipowich, where he starts to talk after bowing down to the temptation of some chocolate treats.
On a serious note, though, Pierce could and perhaps should have been stopped. Nine lives were taken innocently and there's probably someone out there who knows full well they could have prevented it..
