10 Doctor Who Episodes You MUST Watch Before The 60th Anniversary
1. The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End
We could hardly do a list like this without mentioning the story that the trailers have featured flashbacks for!
If it wasn’t for the Series 4 finale, Donna would still be travelling with the Doctor today. Then again, if Donna had never left the Doctor, she wouldn’t have been able to return now. Swings and roundabouts and all that.
This story kicks-off with the Daleks moving Earth across time and space, triggering a sequence of events that would lead to Chiswick’s best temp undergoing a human-Time Lord metacrisis. It was a condition from which she could not recover, leaving the Doctor with no other option but to erase her memories of him, and all their adventures together.
Obviously this plot point will be picked up on in the 60th, but there are others too. The Stolen Earth/Journey's End also makes much of the idea of “destiny” drawing the Doctor and Donna together. And in the 60th trailers, the Doctor makes reference to a destiny "heading" for Donna Noble.
Has a bigger game been at play all along – possibly the work of the Toymaker?
60th links aside, it's a brilliant story in its own right, and a fine example of the kind of blockbuster entertainment to expect from RTD's second era.
