10 Emotional Star Trek Moments That Made The Fans Cry

Characters come and go in Star Trek. You certainly couldn't shed a tear for every 'redshirt' prematurely dispatched or you'd be a desiccated husk. For others, as Trekkies, we get attached (though not yet telepathically by brain stem implant). We develop an almost symbiotic relationship with our favourite characters, so when they are ripped away from us, we feel the loss lachrymal.

In the world of Trek, the likes of Lazarus (not that one!) may be commonplace, but that does little to reduce the emotional impact of any death in the moment. When Jadzia was brutally murdered because she was in the way of an Orb, we didn't know what was next for the Dax symbiont, saved in extremis by Doctor Bashir. More to the point, we were crying for the host!

Worf's death cry for his par'Mach'kai, after Jadzia's parting line of "our baby would have been so beautiful," certainly got the tears flowing. Sisko's soul-searching soliloquy over her torpedo tube casket in the next scene then all but hollowed out our box of tissues. Jadzia Dax had been a constant presence on Deep Space Nine, providing as much of her scientific expertise as she did her joyous sense of humour, friendship, combat skills, and tongo tactics. In retrospect, the off-screen reasons for the departure only add to our sadness over the summary execution of one of Trek's most beloved characters.
