10 Emotional Star Trek Moments That Made The Fans Cry

6. Her Name Is Elizabeth

The loss of a child is one of the most painful experiences anyone can go through. In the penultimate episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, T'Pol and Trip had to face the unthinkable, that their baby — a binary clone created without their knowledge by the racist organisation Terra Prime — was going to die.

In the final scene of the episode, Trip joins T'Pol in mourning in her quarters. Overcome with grief, he chokes back the tears as he speaks of the memorial service for Elizabeth — the name chosen by T'Pol after Trip's sister who he lost during the Xindi attack on Earth. In all the sorrow, there is a glimmer of hope as Doctor Phlox has discovered that it is still medically possible for a Vulcan and a Human to have a child, a nod to future canon for what is considered by many to be the true series finale of Enterprise.

The final scene was equally emotional for the actor, as Connor Trinneer discussed on the Shuttlepod Show. During filming, Trinneer's partner was less than three-months pregnant and, like many choosing not to announce a pregnancy in the first trimester, he had not told anyone on set. Trinneer was so affected by the dialogue that, after cut was called, he went to a corner of the sound stage, unable to contain his tears. Jolene Blalock (T'Pol) walked over to ask what was wrong, and Trinneer explained. Blalock rather movingly just gave him a hug in return.
