10 Essential Star Trek Books For Pre-Internet Trekkies
8. I Am Spock
Autobiographies seemed to be the big thing when it came to the 1990s with only DeForest Kelley choosing not to spill the beans on his Star Trek past.
Yet there was only ever one that had to be read and in turn that was due to a previous volume entitled I Am Not Spock.
Infamous for its title as much for the author's distain for the franchise and his life-changing persona in it, Leonard Nimoy came back with a second, almost apologetic volume to his own story in 1995. Published 20 years after his first attempt, the book is almost conversational at times with Nimoy discussing his own duality with Spock.
It's very much an attempt to both appease fans following the backlash the actor received for the title of his previous work and also to show just how integral a part of his life and success the Vulcan had become. I Am Spock focuses more on the Star Trek years of Nimoy's life and it's even more interesting (and perhaps ironic) now given that he would go on to bring Spock back for two of the three Kelvin Timeline movies in 2009 and 2012.
