10 Essential Star Trek Books For Pre-Internet Trekkies

4. DS9 Companion

Terry J Erdmann's weighty tome on the space station series was written while the series itself was in production. Erdmann was on set to record the stories, the details and the background machinations right from Emissary through to What You Leave Behind with the Companion filling out a great deal of DS9's development.

Larry Nemecek's TNG volume would inevitably also be on the same shelf but with the DS9 Companion the depth of the writing was incredible, taking Trekkies right into the heart of the series with even more in depth pieces on key moments of the show. The retaking of DS9 and its six episode arc as well as spotlights on key recurring characters through the eyes of both writers and actors adds an additional layer of information that was unprecedented back in 2000.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
