10 Essential Star Trek: The Animated Series Episodes You Must See

8. More Tribbles, More Troubles

This episode certainly lives up to its extra-promising title; even the triticale has had an upgrade from quadro- to quinto-. First pitched for The Original Series, the David Gerrold follow-up brings back Cyrano Jones (with Stanley Adams reprising the role), Koloth, and yes… lots, and lots of… giant… pink… tribbles!

More Tribbles, More Troubles certainly can't live up to its extremely popular predecessor, nor, in hindsight, to that inspired time travel revisit. There are certain moments when it feels like a shadow of the original, and some of the jokes that worked so well before don't quite seem to land the second time round. It's far from a poor man's Trouble with…, however; the episode thoroughly deserves its place on this list. You can watch the Short Trek one with Edward later (or not); this is a must-see.

Not to be outdone by Cyrano's now genetically modified fat furball infestation (long before Starfleet Intelligence had a go at the 'attack tribble'), it is the Klingons' own genetic solution to the proliferating problem, the glommer, that is perhaps the funniest aspect of the episode. Forget the cereal, glommers eat tribbles for breakfast (lunch, and dinner)! And I dare you not to laugh when the glommer meets a meal it can't stomach!
