Hodor isnt exactly a man of many words, is he? So whats the actual point of him being in the story? Whats his purpose? Surely he isnt just there to be Brans ride and bodyguard, is he? Well, for now it seems that way, but fans are adamant there must be another reason the friendly giant hasnt become worm food yet. The most popular theory is that Hodor (or Walder, if you read the books), is actually The Great Other the god of the White Walkers. The theory is based on Norse mythology about a Norse god called Hör (or Hodr) who is the god of winter. Ah now thats starting to make a little sense, isnt it? However, it doesnt explain why he can only say Hodor, does it? Another theory of Hodor explains it, although it has nothing to do with him being the The Great Other. Apparently Hodor walked in on something happening in the Tombs of Winterfell involving the Red God, Rhllor, that shocked him so much that he lost his speech almost completely, apart from the word Hodor, because thats his simpleton way of pronouncing "Rh'llor". What do you think?
