3. Camelot - $7 Million Per Episode
StarzIf you need proof that more money does not automatically make a show better or more successful, look at Camelot. Back when it was made in 2010, it was being compared favourably to Game of Thrones and seemed to have a lot of promise. Then there was also the success that Starz had with its previous historical program which was Spartacus. This is what probably determined the studio to greenlight a new show with a $7 million per episode production cost. Since it was set in the time of King Arthur, most of the money had to go towards building historical sets and creating period accurate costumes like many other entries on this list. Production was also split between Ireland where the show was filmed and Toronto where it was edited. This travel also contributed towards the large price tag and Starz had very little to show for it in the end. Enthusiasm for the show quickly fizzled out. Critics became less and less enchanted with it as it became obvious that both shows Camelot drew comparisons with (Game of Thrones and Spartacus) were clearly superior. There was nothing left to justify the enormous production costs to Camelot was cancelled after just one season.
