The Book of Dust is the newest book by award-winning fantasy author Philip Pullman. You may know him for the series His Dark Materials, or the abysmal film adaptation of the first book in the sequence, The Golden Compass.

His Dark Materials is a series about a young girl who slowly discovers her parents - and her world - are breaching a hole in reality. She steps through into a whole new world.

The series follows her and a new friend of hers from our world as the two of them confront angels, fallen beings, and eventually even God as they attempt to save free Will and escape the machinations of Lyra's manipulative parents. It's an awesome world-building story full of mythology, magic, and science.

The fourth in the His Dark Materials series, but the first chronologically, The Book of Dust is the series' first prequel. Whereas His Dark Materials deals with the end of the world, and the Fall of Satan and the Fall of Adam, The Book of Dust is a pseudo-prequel telling the tale of The Flood.

An adaptation of Book of Dust would work well as a way into the magical and mysterious world of Lyra's Oxford, without immediately dealing with the distaste that comes along with The Golden Compass. Also, there are talking ice bears wearing armor marching to battle with witches - that's at least close to Game of Thrones ice dragon's coolness.
