The literal flagship of the franchise, the Battlestar Galactica is one of the most (if only) powerful ships in the entire human fleet. The sturdy supercarrier fought through two massive wars against the seemingly endless Cylon armada and came out relatively unscathed; though its crew was certainly put through the wringer.

The Galactica isn't known for its speed sadly. However, it does have an FTL drive installed, which allows the Galactica to stand as the literal last line of defense for the precious few humans left in the entire universe, jumping out of danger as soon as the last ship in the fleet leaves to the next safest sector of space.

The Galactica's overall military strength comes from the ship's ability to withstand direct hits from nuclear warheads, its massive array of powerful guns that can pierce through a Cylon Basestar, and of course, its fighter launch tubes.

Those launch tubes allow the Galactica to send out the much more agile Viper and Raptor squadrons to hold off the extremely dangerous Cylon Raiders.

The Galactica is indeed iconic for its appearance throughout the series as Humanities final protector, but sadly the speed of the craft is limited by its overall size and major reliance on an old FTL drive to traverse across the stars, searching for a new world to begin anew on.
