10 Forgotten Classic Cartoons That Need To Return

10. Rocko's Modern Life

rockos-modern-life Created by an illustrator named Joe Murray for a four-year run in the early 90s, though it aired for much longer, Rocko's Modern Life remains a cult gem. Like many great series, it was the result of sometimes tricky negotiation between censorship and content due to the push at the time to create edgier cartoons that were also suitable for general viewing. Rocko's world was filled with adult sensibilities, and many jokes centred around the childlike perception of the strange things that adults find normal. The show also included many references, veiled by censorial necessity, to the questioning of these societal norms. In addition, the fourth wall was occasionally broken by this questioning, and once ruptured, the resulting hole was then ignored to allow the punchlines to gather laughs. A great cast of supporting characterisations €“ Rocko's best friend Heffer, a steer adopted by wolves; Ed Bighead, the obnoxious and perpetually-irritated next-door neighbour; even the one-episode desk clerks who deliver some of the best lines €“ flesh out a thorough and satisfying offering that we need to grace our screens again.
