10 Friends Moments That Were Totally Unscripted

9. All Of Paolo's Italian Dialogue

In this case a character's dialogue wasn't unscripted because an actor went ambitiously off-piste, but because the writers felt the actor in question could bring more honesty to the scene than their writing ever could.

You probably remember Rachel's (Jennifer Aniston) dishy Italian boyfriend Paolo (Cosimo Fusco) from the show's very first season, who quickly earns the ire of an insanely jealous Ross (David Schwimmer).

Aside from his staggering good looks, Paolo also spends much of his role speaking in Italian, and actor Cosimo Fusco recently revealed that he was given free reign by the writers to just come up with his Italian dialogue on the spot. He said:

"I was asked to improvise, and I was a little bit skeptical because my English wasn't as good as it is now, let's face it. But I was told not to speak any English: 'Just say whatever you want in Italian'... I made up most of the Italian spoken by Paolo. When I stand by Jennifer, I say, 'Look at the moon. Look at the stars.'"

The end result certainly speaks for itself in confirming Paolo to be a total dreamboat - until he hits on Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) at least.
