Death comes in all different shapes and sizes in Westeros. Men have been decapitated, stabbed, taken down by arrows or dragon fire, and just about any other way imaginable. If there is a way to be killed, George R. R. Martin has thought about it.

In the first season, one of the strongest, and undoubtedly most physically powerful characters in the entire series was unceremoniously killed. Khal Drogo took a small wound on his chest in a spat with one of the riders in his Khalasar, which ultimately became infected, and spelled his end.

Naturally, the medical advances in Westeros weren't where they needed to be in order to save his life, however, six seasons later, Arya was faced with an even worse situation and came out absolutely fine. In Braavos, the Waif stabbed her in the stomach before she escaped into a muddy, dirty river.

Drogo was killed by a slight cut without the possible dangers of whatever bacteria or disease that lived in that river. Arya however, whose wound was far worse to begin with, was absolutely fine. This kind of inconsistency annoyed fans, as it essentially changed the rules and shifted the goal posts of what to expect from a wound in the series.
