10 Genius In-Jokes In The Simpsons

5. Sneed's Feed & Seed

Season 11's "E-I-E-I-(Annoyed Grunt)" boasts one of the most infamous in-jokes in the show's history, enough that it's become a popular Internet meme in recent years.

The iconic scene sees Homer pulling up to a convenience store called "Sneed's Feed & Seed," with lettering below it reading, "Formerly Chuck's."

This seems harmless and forgettable enough until you consider the very lewd implications of the signage.

Given that Sneed, feed, and seed all rhyme, one can infer that Chuck's version of the store also rhymed, and following the same lettering conventions - each subsequent word beginning with an "f" and "s"- it would've read, "Chuck's F**k and Suck."

While this revelation began life as a rumour, the episode's writer, Ian Maxtone-Graham, did eventually confirm it as genuine on Twitter.

There's hiding a filthy joke in plain sight, and then there's burying it so ingeniously deep even most adults didn't notice it - at least not until a meme explained it for them. Incredible.
