10 Genius Ways TV Shows Fixed Their Own Mistakes

1. The Tale Of Two Beckys - Roseanne

If you grew up in the 90s, there's a good chance you saw your fair share of Roseanne episodes, and you might even remember that the series faced a major issue when Lecy Goranson, who played the Conners' eldest daughter Becky, decided she wanted to leave to complete a college degree at the end of the show's fifth season.

The show's producers wrote Becky out but ultimately decided that the character should return, and so recast Becky with future Scrubs star Sarah Chalke taking over the part.

But by season eight, Goranson was able to return, resulting in Chalke being let go. However, because Goranson's college schedule often conflicted with filming, Chalke occasionally returned to fill in for her, resulting in an hilarious game of hot potato with the role being shared between the two actresses.

In another show this could've spelled out a major production problem, but countless wink-wink jokes were made about Becky's changing appearance during season eight, before Chalke took over the role again for its ninth and (initially) final season.

In last year's belated tenth season, Goranson returned to play Becky, while Chalke was brought in to play an entirely new character, with the show inevitably passing comment on their physical similarities to hilarious effect.

Considering how much of a headache this must've been for the showrunners, making a big 'ol joke out of it was clearly the smartest possible route without just writing Becky out entirely.

Plus, we got this hilarious end credits send-up out of the whole mess:
