10 Genuinely Horrible TV Shows Based On Popular Movies
5. Casablanca
Take a moment to wrap your mind around the fact that somehow, somewhere, there were people who thought it would be a good idea to try to make a television version of Casablanca, one of the greatest films in the history of cinema. Why don't we just come out with a sitcom remake of Citizen Kane, while we're at it? Birth of a Nation could probably get a pretty solid run on A&E alongside Duck Dynasty and Storage Wars, too. But do you want to hear the really crazy part? They tried to do it twice. First in 1955, when they attempted to maintain some credibility by hiring a number of actors who had played minor characters in the original film. This version was cancelled after only one season. Then in 1983, another enterprising soul gave it the old college try. It starred David Soul, of Starsky and Hutch fame, as Rick Blaine, one of Humphrey Bogart's most iconic roles. This version was set a year or so before the events of the film, and despite winning an Emmy for cinematography, was cancelled after five dire episodes.
