6. The Gunfight ("Gunmen of the Appocalypse", 1993)
As I mentioned in my recent article on blunders in Doctor Who, sci-fi writers seem to have this strange belief that sci-fi and westerns go together. They dont, but people seem to want to keep trying. Oddly, the one time that it really worked was this episode, and while it was filled with a lot of great scenes (remember Kryten eating raw coffee?), the best moment was the final gunfight between our heroes and the Gunmen. It really worked on every level. We get Listers every-man strengths and weaknesses, the Cats vanity, Rimmers conditional courage and Krytens intelligence saving the day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fljPZ3J8tgI 5. The Real Assassin of Jeff K. ("Tikka to Ride," 1997)
Series seven marked a real change for the show, and while this season in particular had some real ups and downs, the first episode, which featured the crew traveling back in time to Dallas, November 1963. There they accidentally kill Lee Harvey Oswald as hes about to shoot JFK, thus creating a horrible alternate future. They try several times to fix the problem, only to realize that nothing is working. Finally Lister comes up with a plan. They take John F. Kennedy from the alternate future and send him back in time to act as his own assassin. As Lister puts it, Itll drive the conspiracy theorists nuts. Theyll never figure it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6naJ08Tskk
