10 Great TV Show Performances (No One Ever Talks About)

8. Florence Pugh - Little Drummer Girl

Kidding Carrey
AMC

Florence Pugh's star has been on the rise for some time now. But 2021 saw the British sensation break into a new level of superstardom with her scene-stealing work as Yelena Belova in both the Black Widow prequel and Hawkeye Disney+ series.

Long before she was kicking Clint Barton's ass or even picking up Academy Awards nod for her work on Little Women, Pugh was making her first real splash as part of BBC's The Little Drummer Girl miniseries. As the mysterious Charmian "Charlie" Ross, Pugh lines up alongside the likes of Michael Shannon and Alexander Skarsgård but undoubtedly eclipsed both Hollywood names in her mesmerising depiction of an actress suddenly roped into the world of espionage.

It's little surprise that Pugh would go on to pop up in everything from Fighting with my Family to Midsommar in the wake of this performance that showed a level of maturity and mastery of her art way beyond her years so early in her career.

Having to act as the audiences' entry point in a series complex and daring as this is no mean feat, but Pugh executes it all with apparent ease from start to finish.
