10 Great TV Shows Starring The Cast Of Friends
1. The Comeback
Lisa Kudrow’s performance as Valerie Cherish is the boldest and best of any Friends star. For two seasons - with a nine-year gap between them - she played a character based at least somewhat on her own experiences in showbusiness, and created a truly great series in the process.
Cherish is an actress known for one role only, in a sitcom from the ‘90s. Since then she has kicked around Hollywood looking for the next step in her career, which has never come. At a loose end, she takes a lesser role in a new sitcom. The mockdoc format follows Cherish as she attempts to mount an improbable return to fame.
The series functioned as a Hollywood critique and was packed with insider references and meta gags, often at Kudrow’s expense. This specificity may have been part of the reason it didn’t find much of an audience, but with this kind of comedy in vogue nowadays, it has aged like fine wine.
Backed by a great cast including Malin Ackerman and Laura Silverman, The Comeback is a laugh out loud show that was the perfect follow up to a series like Friends. It’s a shame it couldn’t have lasted longer.
