1. The Walking Dead

It's time to turn back to zombies. But, unlike the sleeper hit that was In The Flesh, this show is often considered the magnum opus of walking corpses.

The Walking Dead came during the early days of the TV renaissance. In the same vein as programmes like Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad, the series proved that the small screen could be majorly cinematic. It did this thanks to its enormous scale, stunning practical effects and well-thought-out shots. But, despite all that, the show was still ugly as all hell.

Looking through the colour choices of the series will leave you with very little to look at. The majority of the palette is brown, which gives this distinct sense of decay. Naturally, the theme of decomposition is an integral part of the series about walking decomposed bodies, so it fits like a glove. The world is also a barren wasteland of empty streets, abandoned buildings, and scattered body parts.

Another contribution to the series was that it was shot on 16mm film - at least until the latest season when it switched to digital thanks to the pandemic. This was to create the series' iconic grainy visuals and give it a classic horror look.
