10. Occupation (BBC, 2009)
The most significant TV drama chronicling the 2003 Iraq war and its repercussions, Occupation follows three soldiers from their initial experiences in Basra in 2003 to their decision (for very different reasons) to return to the country in 2007. One goes back for love, one for financial reasons and one to help rebuild the country. From the opening scenes of conflict played out to Massive Attack's Teardrop, Occupation was a cut above. It provided a fitting analogy for the Iraq conflict as a whole - the initial early battle wasn't too problematic, it was the aftermath and the reconstruction that went horribly wrong.
