10 Greatest British TV Dramas Of The Last 7 Years

6. Boy A (Channel 4, 2007)

Boy A The drama that is ostensibly remembered for Andrew Garfield's debut performance, Boy A is a stunning feature length drama in its own right, one that tackles a difficult subject with tact and skill. Garfield plays Eric Wilson, a young man released from prison under the name of Jack Burridge. He has spent his adolescent years behind bars for the murder of a schoolgirl he committed with a friend when he was himself a young boy. We never find out which out of the two children actually committed the murder, but Eric's role is deemed serious enough for incarceration and a new identity upon release. Boy A is a coming of age drama with a dark twist. We see Jack getting a job and making new friends (even finding a girlfriend), all of whom are unaware of his past. It holds back from any moral judgement, leaving the viewer to decide whether Jack is really deserving of this new life.
