10 Greatest MTV Unplugged Episodes
3. Oasis
Not many other bands can claim to have hit the ground running as quickly as Oasis did in the early '90s. With the mantle of grunge slowly starting to lose its luster, the arrival of Definitely Maybe made the sound of rock and roll feel new and exciting again, as the Gallagher Brothers became some of the biggest rockstars in the world. That didn't mean that it was an easy road to Unplugged though.
In one of the more dramatic moments in Unplugged history, Noel Gallagher was rehearsing with Oasis the day of the gig when Liam showed up saying that he wouldn't be playing that night because of a sore throat. Chalking it up to being overserved at the pub the night before, Noel decided to go it alone onstage, adopting the role of the frontman for the rest of the night.
Though the songs felt a lot more natural with Noel's voice in this quiet setting, the drama didn't end there, with Liam being seen from the rafters of the stage, where he proceeded to heckle his brother for not playing the songs nearly as effectively as he could. For as much as the Unplugged stage might be about a more intimate performance, this was a far more eventful gig that anyone had bargained for.
