10 Greatest Musician Cameos On The Simpsons

7. Ringo Starr

The Simpsons has a rich history with The Beatles, having based an entire episode around them in season five, which features an enjoyably low key cameo from George Harrison. Prior to that, though, was season two’s “Brush With Greatness”, and its delightfully bizarre guest spot with Ringo Starr.

The episode sees Marge reconnect with her artistic roots, having found some paintings of the Beatles drummer she’d made in high school. The rest of the plot involves Marge being commissioned to paint Mr Burns, and the trouble that ensues.

It’s best remembered, though, for Ringo’s cameo at the end, a much-teased appearance that pays the episode off perfectly. Starr delivers his lines in his trademark spacey style, with an uncanny ability to make mundane dialogue hilarious by the childlike wonder of his voice.

Ringo was one of the show’s first casting coups, and opened the door for the remainder of the surviving Beatles, along with many other luminaries.
