10 Greatest TV Episodes Of All-Time

10. "Who Goes There" (1.4) - True Detective

It might seem somewhat hyperbolic to suggest that "Who Goes There," the fourth episode of True Detective's first season, is one of the greatest TV episodes ever, but going on the evidence - the episode itself, that is - it's not that difficult a position to argue. True Detective became something of a cultural phenomenon earlier this year, of course, when it aired on HBO, drawing praise for its idiosyncratic atmosphere and dual lead performances from the likes of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Gripping, terrifying and bound to leave you breathless, "Who Goes There" marked the point at which True Detective allowed itself to dive headfirst into the rabbit hole - the show morphed from "really, really good" to "cosmically great," winning a host of new fans.Theundeniable highlight of the episode, then, depicts Rust - in a single, unbroken take of six minutes - escaping from a ghetto erupting with chaos of frenzied, Apocalypse Now-sized proportions, making for one of TV's best ever scenes. You'll forget to breathe.
