10 Greatest TV Extra Performances Ever

9. The Middleton Doppelganger (The Crown)

The Crown is one of those shows that can dominate the online conversation, and that's exactly what happened when its fourth season hit Netflix in late 2020.

Around this time, fans grew attached to one particular extra seen in the sixth episode, Terra Nullius, who acted the hell out of her brief moment on camera.

Responding to Princess Diana with the exact same energy as a dog reuniting with its owner after a long time apart, she looked like she was going to burst with happiness, but her incredibly sweet, convincing performance wasn't the only reason the internet took a shine to her.

Instead (and we can't believe we're saying this, but it's true) some fans believed that this extra was none other than Kate Middleton - y'know, the Duchess Of Cambridge - enjoying a royal cameo.

Admittedly, you can sort of see the resemblance in the image above, but other angles make it clear that this woman, in fact, isn't actually Kate Middleton. Shocking, right? Still, whoever she is, she clearly gave 110%, able to stand out despite being surrounded by a thronging crowd of people.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
