There are few TV villains fans love to hate as much as The Boys' Homelander (Anthony Starr), who while presented in the show's marketing as a parodical hybrid of Superman and Captain America, is actually something very different.

When the Mayor of Baltimore attempts to blackmail Homelander's boss-slash-lover, Vought International VP Madelyn Stillwell (Elisabeth Shue), he takes matters into his own hands at the end of the show's very first episode.

When the Mayor and his son are taking a flight, Homelander suddenly flies alongside the plane, at which point the Mayor's son smiles and asks his father if they're friends.

But before the Mayor can do much of anything, Homelander uses his heat vision to obliterate the aircraft, instantly killing everyone onboard. The episode then ends with Homelander watching the carnage as a terrifying smile appears to grow across his face.

It was one hell of a way to end the show's first episode and confirm beyond any doubt that, no, this ain't your regular superhero series.
