10 Grimmest TV Storylines Ever
4. The Red Wedding - Game Of Thrones
Where does one even start?
Is it Robb watching his pregnant wife get stabbed to death?
Or Catelyn watching her eldest son take a knife to the heart?
Or us watching Catelyn’s throat get slit?
One of the definitive moments in Game of Thrones, The Red Wedding proved how little the series cared for fantasy convention. After Ned’s unceremonious death in season 1, many viewers probably figured his son Robb would triumphantly avenge his old man.
Of course, if you thought anything in Westeros was going to have a happy ending, you clearly weren’t paying attention. 2 seasons in the making, Robb inadvertently sealed his doom the moment he spurned his agreement with the reviled Walder Frey to take one of his daughters in marriage.
Despite winning every battle, Robb soundly loses his war against the Lannister family by underestimating the depths of dishonour his rivals will stoop to. The Westerosi custom of guest safety is thrown to the wind as were many of the storyline expectations and fan theories for those who had not read the novels prior.
