Theres nothing like watching two characters youve grown to love over the course of a series finally get together. Youve wanted it to happen after years of flirtation, near-misses and frustration and they finally get there. The audience cheers. Its beautiful for many, many episodes and then suddenly, its over. With the exception of a shocking character death (hello, Game of Thrones), nothing shakes up a TV show for its audience like a much-loved relationship crumbling down before our very eyes. Its implications for the rest of a shows main cast of characters can often be felt for seasons to come or even becomes the main talking point of a series finale. Each of these heart-breaking breakups have been etched into the memories of audiences worldwide for one reason or another, whether it be because its two characters weve been rooting for for years or they have been torn apart by a force greater than themselves.
