10 Heartbreaking Times Lead Characters Left TV Shows
5. Troy Barnes - Community
Community was one of the 21st Century’s greatest sitcoms, but it didn’t have the most stable of casts. After the main seven/nine (depending on if you include Chang and the Dean) stayed together for four years, things started to crack.
Troy, Pierce and Shirley all left the show, while Buzz joined and then left, with Frankie and Elroy joining afterwards. With all the comings and goings though, only Troy got a real send off. The emotional weight of his story thankfully made up for the sudden disappearance of the others.
After being left Pierce’s fortune on the condition he sail around the world, Troy leaves Greendale to put away childish things and become a man. However, before he goes, he has one last childish thing with a school-wide game of The Floor Is Lava.
As has become typical with Community’s concept heavy episodes, they go all out on the execution. What’s hidden underneath the stunts though is Abed’s complete inability to face up to Troy leaving.
He sees the lava as real, and is unable to face life without Troy. It’s only once the pair have a heart to heart with Britta guiding them that he’s finally able to let go.
