10 Hidden Family Guy Jokes Everybody Missed

6. Hidden TV Guide Headline Telling People To Watch The Show

Family Guy's trademark brand of humour is usually stuff that is weirdly meta, on the nose, and right in your face. But when the writers and producers decide to tackle subtlety, they do a pretty good job of it. In the episode 'The Story on Page One', Peter decides that Meg's school paper story is rubbish and decides to chime in.

After looking around for a scoop, he finds a TV Guide about Luke Perry before rushing off to do a story about Perry being gay. But if you can look past the hilariously drawn caricature of Perry, you'll notice that there's a message for all DVD-pausing fans: 'If you can read this, Family Guy is on the air'.

It's a really quick scene so chances are that you would've missed it. But no matter, you can always just watch Family Guy on TV since it's still, you know, on the air. But true to Family Guy's self-referential nature, the show would pull off another even more meta headline gag later on...

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
