10 Horror TV Shows That Wasted Incredible Premises
1. The Walking Dead
It's an extremely valid question: how can it be possible that what is arguably the most successful horror show of all time could have wasted its incredible unique selling point?
The Walking Dead's central premise is endlessly exciting and full of possibilities; there's a reason that the zombie sub-genre is so utterly worn out in 2022, as swarms of shows and films seek to exploit the seemingly limitless bounds of such a universe.
Despite initially providing a fresh new take on a war against the undead, The Walking Dead has fallen off drastically in terms of quality. Despite being utterly vital to the premise of The Walking Dead, zombies haven't been scary on the show for years; relegated to mindless background fodder in favour of drab characters who pale in comparison to antagonists of seasons gone by.
The colorful villains that added depth and intrigue to proceedings are no more, replaced with dreary baddies that even the most die-hard of fans struggle to get excited about. The bulk of the cast that made The Walking Dead such a success in the first place have wisely abandoned the sinking zombie-laden ship that the show has become, as it labors towards the conclusion of its eleventh and final season.
Robert Kirkman's universe provides a glorious premise to work with, but to no avail. In a comic parody of the undead antagonists at the heart of the franchise, the zombified remains of The Walking Dead are left lumbering on, too undead to realize how unenjoyable it has become.
