While travelling across the Earth Kingdom, Team Avatar are being chased relentlessly by Azula, Ty Lee and Mai in a metal machine. Their lack of sleep makes the team lash out at one another until Toph has had enough and leaves the group. Aang then acts as a decoy to lure their pursuers away from Katara and Sokka, but is tracked down by Azula to an abandoned town.

Toph then runs into Iroh who convinces her to return to her friends and help them. Aang and Azula fight in the town and are later joined by Zuko, Katara, Sokka, Toph and Iroh. During the fighting, Iroh convinces Zuko to turn on Azula and the battle quickly turns into a six-on-one.

After she is eventually cornered, Azula pretends to surrender, before shooting Iroh with fire and using the chaos to escape. Zuko lashes out in rage and Team Avatar retreat, leaving Zuko to treat a severely wounded Iroh.

This episode is perfect in establishing how dangerous Azula is by highlighting her cold, calculating nature as well as her ruthless fighting style. From this episode on, no one was in doubt that anything involving Azula was always going to be bad news.
