10 Iconic TV Show Opening Credits You Will NEVER Skip
3. Cheers
This list wouldn’t be complete without Cheers.
One of the best sitcoms of all time, Cheers represented the everyman within its characters as it conveyed a group of people, all with eccentric traits and various personalities, who found comfort in the Cheers bar. The venue is filled with the classic regulars that we grew to love over the years, and the enjoyable one-off visitors. Every day was filled with funny anecdotes, unexpected problems and a sense of warming familiarity.
But the show would be nothing without its iconic intro. Written by Judy Hart-Angelo and Gary Portnoy, and performed by the latter, I don’t think the producing duo would realise just how popular the theme song would become.
Sure, it’s a bit cheesy, but it’s an empathetic melody for those who are going through a tough time. The older you get, the more you truly understand the meaning behind the song. It’s heart-warming, it’s comforting, it’s rather depressing (despite its seemingly upbeat tone) and it’s arguably one of the very few television themes songs that is more famous than the actual show.
