10 Incredible TV Shows That Everyone Thought Would Be Terrible

4. The Office

It’s a mystery why so many British shows are remade in the US, considering how many fail. Because a lot of the humour in these British shows revolves around… being British, it doesn’t work when you put in an American setting.

But that didn’t stop American studios remaking classics like The IT Crowd, Spaced, The Inbetweeners, and Fawlty Towers. Not only were all these needless reboots utter dribble, some of them got canned after a single episode.

So when plans were announced to remake The Office, it sounded idiotic. The Golden Globe-winning series is pretty much perfect. And when reception of the first season was lukewarm, we all saw it coming.

But by the second season, the new Office stopped trying to duplicate the British version’s humour and just did its own thing. Instead of making the characters generically awkward, most of them were tweaked into likeable bumbling oafs. This made the comedy cringier, but this time, it was for the right reasons.

Within a few years, The Office was regarded superior to the original, which in itself was considered a flawless comedy.
