10 Innocent TV Characters Who Were Horribly Mistreated

1. Squidward (Spongebob Squarepants)

2_spongebob_squarepants_characters_photos I was fifteen the last time I religiously watched Spongebob Squarepants, scandalous I know. I manage to catch the odd episode here and there, but nothing too intense. But it€™s only just hit me, what has Squidward ever done wrong? He just wants peace. But the writers are under this mentality that we tune in to watch Squidward be a punching bag for Spongebob and Patrick. It€™s never annoyed me before, but for some reason I felt a great disdain towards the series. Take this episode I watched the other day for example: Squidward was eagerly anticipating a concert for one of his favourite artists and for some reason they had Patrick eat his tickets, forcing Squidward to attend with Spongebob. Spongebob proceeded to embarrass Squidward relentlessly until Patrick showed up to eat everything once again. They then had the artist, who Squidward adores, mock him for his poor clarinet skills and in the same breath, invite Spongebob on stage to play with him. It was a heartbreaking moment for us Squidward shippers. The series is set up to break down Squidward. Every time he tries to get away or get some peace, they find a way to tear him down. I agree that Squidward has some sense of admiration towards the happy-go-lucky attitude of his neighbours; those episodes of realisation are quite strong. But to have Spongebob and Patrick repeatedly break Squidward€™s spirit is completely needless. He is horribly mistreated, for the most part, by the writers and I hope that one day he€™ll catch his lucky break.
