While it's often said that we're currently living through the Golden Age of TV as it pertains to "prestige" dramas, there's also never been a better time to be a horror fan where small-screen entertainment is concerned.
Studios know the phenomenal popularity of the horror genre, and so there are more horror TV shows now in production than ever before, whether entirely original creations, adaptations of classic works, or follow-ups to classic movies.
And of course, what would any horror series be without some totally off-the-chain, unhinged, wantonly WTF death scenes?
Even the worst horror show or movie can be worth watching if it's got some neat kills, but these TV series - each of them hugely popular in their own way - complimented their binge-worthy storytelling with at least one utterly insane all-timer death scene.
From clinically brutal murders to sexy supernatural shenanigans, deeply upsetting self-sacrifices, and a fight in a sperm bank nobody is ever going to forget, these are the most bizarre, messed up, and sometimes even hilarious kills from horror TV series.
Needless to say, nobody who's witnessed these gnarly, outrageous death scenes will ever forget them...
10. Beverly Katz - Hannibal
There are so many artfully disgusting deaths in Hannibal, but the one that takes the cake above all others? The grim-yet-clinical end of crime scene investigator Beverly Katz (Hettienne Park) - a sure fan favourite character.
After breaking into Hannibal's (Mads Mikkelsen) home and making a grotesque discovery, Beverly is subdued by him off-screen.
When her dead body inevitably turns up, she's been frozen, sliced into neat vertical chunks, and displayed in an offputtingly pristine tableau-like formation.
And to add further insult to injury, Lecter also takes one of Beverly's kidneys to fulfil his culinary "needs."
Even for the show's off-the-wall standards this was pretty gnarly, especially as audiences had grown pretty fond of Beverly. It's one thing seeing a random character dissected and mutilated, but a likeable hero? This one truly cut deep.
