10 Insane TV Theories You Won't Believe

5. Ryan Was A Police Informant In The OC

Tell you what, The OC was a brilliant TV show. Part of the reason we were so excited for Batman prequel series Gotham is because its pre-Commissioner Jim Gordon is being played by Ben McKenzie, who previously starred as inner-city tough guy Ryan Atwood, and thus we thought the chances of Bruce Wayne's parents being gunned down in slow-motion whilst an Imogen Heap song played were pretty high (sadly, we were wrong).

We still have The OC, though, the teen soap opera which starts with Ryan being sort of adopted by rich lawyer Sandy Cohen, who brings the troubled teen to come live in the opulent surroundings of Orange County, where he causes trouble and makes friends with Sandy's dorky son Seth. Which is kind of a weird premise, when you think about it. The state just allow some rich guy to nab a kid and take him home with him? That's...well, that's actually quite similar to Batman, now we think about it. And it's just as ridiculous there! What's the real story? Don't worry, there's a theory to explain it.

Ryan isn't some waif and stray who's been spirited away to a better life; nope, he's a police informant infiltrating the seedy underbelly of Southern California. Kristen, Sandy's wife, is the real trouble maker. Her family make illegal financial investments, have secret love children they pay off to keep schtum, engage in extortion and blackmail...and suddenly, as soon as Ryan turns up, they start getting arrested. Coincidence? We think not.
