10 Insane TV Twists That Ruined Their Shows

5. Gilmore Girls

The CW

Okay so admittedly the CW's cult dramedy Gilmore Girls may not be the first name to come to your mind when the conversation turns to bombshell TV twists.

The show's pacing was a little more anodyne than Game of Thrones and its stakes were often lower than, say, The X-Files, sure.

But there's still no denying that Gilmore Girls knew how to pull off a devastatingly effective plot twist in its time, as the many failed romances of its titular heroines over the years have evidenced (Jess, you were too good for Stars Hollow and Rory Gilmore).

And the show also knew how to bungle a plot twist terribly, as evidenced by the out-of-nowhere separation of Lorelei's parents. A potentially tragic turn, the sudden and unexpected twist instead served to highlight how much the writers were running out of ideas and, as sad as it was, the meandering storyline did little to reinvigorate the show's by-then flagging energy.
