Marvel Agents Of Shield Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D launched last week to grand critical acclaim and large viewing audiences - with over 12 million people watching in the United States and over 3 million watching in the United Kingdom. The show follows the adventures of the titular organisation, S.H.I.E.L.D (which stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division), as they investigate incidents involving superhumans and will mostly follow the adventures of S.H.I.E.L.D agent Phil Coulson €“ a popular supporting character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies who is played by the brilliant Clark Gregg. Cobie Smulders has also reprised her role as Maria Hill. Being a part of the aforementioned Marvel Cinematic Universe means that the show shares a continuity with movies such as the Iron Man trilogy, the Thor movies and The Avengers €“ Joss Whedon is overseeing the series as creator and executive producer alongside his brother Jed and his sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen. Along with the exciting possibility of cameos from the movie stars (Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson etc), the show has the opportunity to introduce a new batch of characters in to the on-screen world - both well-known and lesser-known - from the Marvel comics that the show is based on.
