10 Major Game Of Thrones Deaths You Didn't Give A Sh*t About

1. Jon Arryn

HBO

Jon Arryn's death was what started the events of the series in motion. Taking place just before the show begins, you see only his corpse lying in the Sept of King's Landing, during the first episode. Although Jon Arryn's death is technically the most important of the entire series, it's one that first-time viewers understandably didn't give a sh*t about.

To understand the significance of Jon Arryn's death, a history lesson is required. Jon fostered both Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon, in the Vale of Arryn. The two considered Jon to be a second father to them, a fact that was confirmed after Jon refused to hand them over to be executed by the Mad King Aerys II, instead choosing to raise his banners against the crown. Jon's death, which was recently revealed to be part of a grand plot formed by Littlefinger, was the reason for King Robert riding to Winterfell to make Ned his new Hand. Jon Arryn's was a death that spawned a hundred thousand more, an impressive feat for someone you never even met.
