Season 2 Episode 19 - "Critical Film Studies" The man, to whom they were trying to pay homage, the great Quentin Tarantino, can only appreciate this reference in a reference. Community has centered a plot of an episode based on movies before (Apollo 13, Goodfellas, Die Hard, etc). Tarantino has inspired many people over the years, so it's obvious that Abed would be a fan. Knowing this, Jeff decides to organize a party for Abed with a Pulp Fiction theme. Everyone gets dressed as different characters from the Tarantino film. Jeff has to get Abed to the surprise party. They meet for dinner and Abed isn't acting like his normal self. He is acting like a normal person and tells Jeff that he is done with pop culture. However, the meeting itself turns out to be a reference to a little known film called
My Dinner with Andre. Tarantino is known for putting a lot of pop culture into his films, and this episode of references within references is homage to Tarantino and his filmmaking.
