4. ...Taking An Opportunity To Mention Molly's Failed Engagement
...Series 3 may have brought a chance to develop Molly and give her an independence to stand out on her own, but Sherlock's friendship with her comes crashing down in 'His Last Vow'. Firstly, Molly's right: Sherlock's being extremely stupid to turn back to heroin and waste his fantastic talents. That might not actually be his fault addiction is an illness, it's a bit unfair to call him a jerk for that but there's no denying that his reply to her is needless. "Sorry your engagement's over," he says coldly, after Molly's just slapped him. "Though I'm fairly grateful for the lack of a ring." Being a smartass when you're being lectured is never a good move, but when Sherlock makes this deduction it feels like gloating. Molly's clearly upset: it's not a good time for a personal comment, unfortunately.
