10 Moments When TV Comedies Got Way Too Real
6. Auflosung - Archer Dreamland
Archer as a character has no end to the problems in his head. In the eighth season, Archer is left in a coma and finding out the man who raised him has died.
In an inspired move, the show-makers turned it into a 1940s noir story as a mechanism for Archer to try and cope with it and to find Woodhouse's killer. Naturally, he ends up getting wrapped up in other stories along the way forgetting the real reason he started.
The revelation is as simple as it is devastating: Woodhouse was killed randomly by Dutch (or Barry however you look at it) for no reason. There was no mystery, it was just sort of because and in the end, Archer visits his grave and finally comes to terms with his death.
